It’s
World Book Day on 7th March. This is UN initiated event to encourage and celebrate a love of reading. And as
Barack Obama says,
“Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible”.
So to help you join in the fun here’s an inexpensive Spid the Spider and Bid the Spider dress-up kit that you can make at home. As all you need is to print this mask, fish out some clothes, and to buy a few latex balloons. Then you can join your school celebration without breaking the bank!
Materials Required
Spid mask printed on card
Turquoise modelling balloons x 4
Elastic
Scissors
4 safety pins
Yellow wellies
Turquoise tights or leggings
Turquoise top/t-shirt
Step by Step Guide to Make Your Spid (or Bid) the Spider World Book Day Dress Up
1. Print your Spid mask on light card, then cut out small holes for your eyes!
2. Attach elastic to the sides by making a small hole, pushing the elastic through on one
side and secure with a knot. Cut the elastic to the correct size to fit and attach to the
other end.
3. Blow up your modelling balloons and be sure they are all the same length.
4. Put on your turquoise top and tights.
5. Attach the balloons to your clothes with safety pins. On the left side of your body,
affix the first balloon between your arm and waist. Then affix the second balloon to
your waist. Then repeat for the right hand side of your body. You could also add a
small piece of sticky tape to the end of the balloon too the reduce the risk of tearing
or popping when you walk around!
6. Finally, put on your yellow wellington boots and mask to complete the look!
