Spid goes on a long car journey in Spid the Spider Goes on Holiday. And long car journeys can be boring. So if you have a long journey planned, here are four free-to-download holiday car games to play as a family! They will challenge your observation skills, and help children develop questioning, analysis, literary and conversational skills. They should also provide a few laughs en route :-).
You’ll need a bingo card and writing instruments to play this game. So first, download and print a copy of the bingo card for each member of the family, and take along some pens of pencils.
The winner is the first person to spot and circle either a row, column or all twelve of the items on the card, and then shout ‘bingo!’ You choose how easy or difficult to make the challenge. If you get bored with the list of items on the card then create your own list of items on the rear of the card
In this game one person thinks of a person, place or thing and the rest of the family take turns to ask yes-or-no-questions, or guess the answer. An example of a yes-or-no-questions is “does it grow in the ground?”. A round ends, and the winner is determined, when the question has been correctly guessed. You could also determine the winner of a number of rounds over a pre-determined time period of play, say thirty minutes.
This car game starts with one person asking a far-fetched question of the rest of the family. Two examples are “would you rather eat pizza or chocolate for an entire day?” or “would you rather have the ability to fly or become invisible?”. This game is a great way to get to know people, and the fun also comes from understanding why people choose the answers they do!
Play starts with the first person saying a random word. Play continues with the next people saying words that are associated to the previous word. Players drop out if they fail to come up with an associated word or take too long to do so. The winner is the last man (or woman) standing! Here’s an example: mustard, hot dog, BBQ, summer.
