Making a Spid the Spider puppet is a fun activity to do with your children. Not only will this while away a rainy day, but this will also help develop your child’s comprehension skills and dexterity. Then when you’ve followed our instructions to create your own puppet, you could also encourage your child to draw their own template for Spid’s friends, such as Bid, or Herman. You could even make the entire gang! While you are doing this, you might also like to listen to Spid singing ‘The Gang’. The song features in Spid the Spider Gets Spooked at Halloween, and his album, The Fun Goes On.
Spid the Spider template printed or glued on to light card
A wooden ice cream stick
A pair of scissors
Some paper glue
Here are ten easy-to-follow steps:
1. Download and print the spider pattern and cut out the pieces.
2. Fold the 5 circles in half with the coloured side facing inwards.
3. Make the spider’s back by gluing the plain side of the folded circles together, one
by one, to make a fan. (Decide the order of the colours before you stick.)
4. Glue the wooden ice cream stick handle onto the tummy.
5. With the colours facing upwards, fold the legs in half to make up-side-down V
shaped mountains.
6. Fold each end outwards to make a little foot
7. Turn the face and tummy over and glue 4 legs onto each side of the back of the
tummy, using the little feet you folded in step 6.
8. Glue the spider’s back on.
9. Fold the head upwards.
10. Hold the ice cream stick handle and twist your wrist from side to side to make
your Spid puppet walk.
