Colds and flu circulate all year round though in the UK symptoms start becoming more likely as early as October and can continue into March. The peak of cold and flu season is typically from November to February. So to help protect yourself, and your children from colds and flu, raise awareness of the symptoms of colds and flu, how viruses are transmitted and how to stay safe by making a colds and flu health education poster.
1. Start by discussing what are colds and flu, the symptoms of colds and flu.
The common cold and flu (influenza) are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. The common cold can be caused by a number of different viruses, including rhinoviruses, parainfluenza, and seasonal coronaviruses. Flu is caused by influenza viruses only. 2. Then ask children to think of ways to stay safe from germs and viruses
Create a long list of ideas as a group. Then in pairs ask them to develop a message that they think will remind or persuade their friends or family members to stay safe.
3. How to stay safe from germs and viruses?
Then finally to draw a poster that includes that message. By asking the children to vote on which one is most likely to change their behaviour, then inspires further discussion.
To mitigate against voting bias in attributing the posters to particular teams and to encourage independent thought!
