About Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually in many countries around the world on February 14th.  It’s a day when people show their affection for others by sending cards, flowers or other gifts with messages of love.

The day is also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine.  While the origins of the day are unclear there are several Christian martyrs named Valentine, and the day may have taken its name from a priest martyred around 270 BC/CE.  Formal messages or valentines were first sent in the 14th Century, and then the late 16th Century saw the advent of commercially printed cards. Iconography associated with Valentines includes hearts, Cupid (the Roman god of love) and flowers. Also birds (heralding the start of the avian mating season).  Valentine’s day has since expanded to exchange expressions of affection between relatives and friends.

Things You Need to Make a Valentine’s Day Card

• Plain white A4 card or stiff paper
• Colouring materials; paint, pencils or pens

How to Make a Valentine’s Day Card

1. First, download and print the Valentine’s card template on plain white card (just ensure it goes through your printer) or stiff paper.

2. Choose any or all of your colouring materials to colour-in your card.

3. Also choose to print and cut-out multiple versions of your card to make a 3D or decoupage card.

3. Finally, choose to sign your card or remain anonymous!
